Another late start to the day. Our body clocks are obviously still not quite right.
The hotel shuttle took us downtown where we called at the Visitors Information Centre to find out about salmon viewing, the Museum and bike hire.
On the recommendation of locals, we bought a reindeer hotdog as we'd missed brekky. A spicy sausage, but quite tasty.
Armed with the necessary information we headed off to see if we could see any salmon spawning. Advice was that the season was over and we wouldn't find salmon, so we kept walking on to the Anchorage Museum to spend a couple of hours learning more about the history of the Alaskan culture.
On our way, we discovered The Holy Family Cathedral! Unfortunately it was shut, but passers by stopped to take our photo in front of the sign.
With drizzling rain we needed to break out the umbrellas and rain jackets to walk to the opposite end of town to investigate bike hire. We called in at Snow City Cafe, where Obama had bought cinnamon buns last week, for a hot drink.
From there we located the bike hire place and hired 3 bikes! That was heaps of fun. We cycled along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, which was a ride filled with beautiful scenery (but not a moose in sight)!
We chatted to various walkers who took our picture and had a lovely afternoon in spite of light rain.
Before returning our bikes we checked out the Captain Cook memorial. He was a clever fellow!
By then it was after 6.00pm and time to look for somewhere for dinner. We settled on Ginger, which was very reasonably priced and incredibly delicious.
Still drizzling rain we walked back to the Visitors Centre to ring our hotel to ask them to send the shuttle to collect us. Love the shuttle. It takes us downtown and collects us or drops us to Walmart down the road. Very handy!
