Our first day was one of travel, departing Hope Island at 3.30am. The flights and connections all went perfectly.
After the 14 and 1/2 hour flight to Vancouver we had 6 hours to fill for the connecting flight to Anchorage. A flight attendant explained how to catch the sky train to a recently built outlet shopping centre, just two stops from the airport. We managed that without issue, only to discover the shops didn't open until 10.00am and it was barely 8.00am.
We finally arrived in Anchorage, Alaska 34 hours after leaving Hope Island, a little weary but happy to get here.
After checking into the hotel we caught the shuttle bus to the local Walmart. Kathy and Judy weren't overly keen on the idea but I was in search of a jacket. (Yes, another jacket!)
We were excited to discover gortex jackets, that are approx $150-$200 at home, for $35! So we each got a new jacket! Makeup was cheap too. Well worth the trip.
We walked back to the hotel for dinner in the restaurant there.
As we're in Alaska it was clam chowder and salmon - absolutely delicious!
It's 10pm here now. Bed time after a long and tiring 43 hours without sleep.
Tomorrow we'll be exploring downtown Anchorage, on the lookout for bears, salmon and moose!
Kathy, Judy and Kaye are off on an exciting adventure to Alaska and Canada. Follow our travels on this blog...
