It was around 10.00am before we departed Whistler to head to Kamloops via the Trans-Canada Hwy. It takes quite a bit of concentration to stay on the 'wrong' side of the road but we've mastered it so far!
We stopped briefly at Joffre Lake to wonder at the beauty of the lake at the base of glacial mountains and of course, take some pictures.
The road wound up through the mountains, with glorious scenery: pine trees, rivers and lakes, before descending to the other side where the landscape became quite arid with fewer trees and some cultivated farmland. The crop seemed to be lucerne or something similar that had recently been baled.
Lunch was at a tiny place called Lil'ooet (population 2000) in a busy little cafe that served home made beetroot soup.
On arrival in Kamloops we drove downtown to visit Riverside Park on the banks of the Thompson River. It was a beautiful place.
We walked on to the train station and saw the Rocky Mountaineer train and the Kamloops steam train. We encountered the Kamloops Mounted Patrol, but they weren't real Mounties, so we're still searching...
