What a magnificent day!
The hotel shuttle bus took us to Fisherman's Wharf where we boarded a large catamaran for our whale watching adventure.
The water was calm on a glorious sunny day as we headed out to find orcas in the bay. There are orcas that live in the area and others that pass through.
We sighted a group of about five orcas, a large female with smaller whales. They were slowly swimming along the coastline together. The boat stayed with the whales for maybe 30 minutes before we headed for a small island with a lighthouse where harbour seals and sea lions were basking in the sun.
The seals were very noisy and particularly smelly!
Then it was on to a further part of the bay where humpback whales had been sighted.
Two humpbacks were peacefully swimming along, diving every now and then to feed.
We were out on the water for four hours and had a wonderful time! Although it was a sunny day, it was quite cold up on the front of the boat as we travelled from place to place.
Once back at Fisherman's Wharf we had fish 'n' chips for lunch!
